About Daredevil
Matthew Michael Murdock is Daredevil, Marvel's blind Man Without Fear, a street-level guardian who has prowled the rooftops of Hell's Kitchen since his debut in Daredevil #1 (April 1964), created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett. As a child, Matt was blinded by a radioactive canister while saving a stranger from an oncoming truck. The accident stripped away his sight but supercharged his remaining senses to superhuman levels, granting him an extraordinary radar sense that paints the world around him in stunning detail. By day he channels his brilliant legal mind as an attorney fighting for the powerless in the courtroom; by night he dons his iconic red suit and wages a very different kind of justice in the shadows. That tension between law and vigilantism, order and chaos, has made Daredevil one of Marvel's most psychologically rich and enduring characters.
For collectors, the key issues are plentiful and deeply significant. Daredevil #1 is the crown jewel — a Silver Age cornerstone featuring the character's origin and his first clash with the Fixer. Frank Miller's legendary run beginning with Daredevil #168 introduced Elektra and redefined the title as a gritty crime noir, making those issues among the most sought-after Bronze and Copper Age books in the hobby. Miller's "Born Again" arc (Daredevil #227–233) remains one of the greatest superhero deconstructions ever published and commands serious collector attention. Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev's celebrated run in the early 2000s, along with Ed Brubaker's dark follow-up, pushed the title to critical heights and produced key issues that remain highly desirable in high grade.
Daredevil's rogues' gallery and supporting cast have generated countless collectible first appearances of their own. Kingpin's rise as Daredevil's ultimate nemesis, the assassin Bullseye, the deadly Elektra, the ninja clan The Hand, and the mysterious order known as The Chaste all trace their roots through this title's pages. Matt Murdock has also carried a staggering list of aliases — from the Scarlet Swashbuckler to the Kingpin of Hell's Kitchen — each tied to defining story arcs that shifted his character in bold new directions and produced memorable key issues along the way.
Few Marvel titles offer the consistent creative pedigree and collector depth that Daredevil does. From Silver Age rarities to landmark Bronze Age runs and critically acclaimed modern storylines, the series rewards collectors at every level of the hobby. Whether you're hunting a high-grade first appearance, chasing a complete Miller run, or building out a full Bendis or Brubaker arc, Daredevil books represent some of the finest storytelling Marvel has ever produced — and the back-issue market reflects that prestige. Building a Daredevil collection means owning pieces of comic book history.
