About Voodoo
Voodoo, real name Priscilla Kitaen, made her explosive debut in WildC.A.T.s: Covert Action Teams #1 (August 1992), one of the most historically significant first issues in independent comics history. That landmark debut — part of Jim Lee's founding lineup at WildStorm and Image Comics — launched one of the most collectible runs of the 1990s and introduced Pris as a dancer with a hidden destiny far beyond her human-seeming exterior. Her very first appearance is a cornerstone of the Image Comics revolution, making it a must-have for any serious WildStorm or 1990s comics collector.
At her core, Voodoo is a Halfie — half human, half Daemonite — which makes her one of the most complex characters in the WildStorm universe. Unlike the Kherubim warriors who make up much of the WildC.A.T.s roster, Pris carries the blood of their ancient enemy, giving her a terrifying and versatile power set. She can shapeshift, read minds, see through Daemonite disguises with her supernatural sight, and even channel possession and necromantic energies. This moral and genetic duality drove some of the richest storytelling in the WildC.A.T.s run, as Pris constantly wrestled with what side of her heritage defined her.
Voodoo received a major spotlight moment when DC relaunched her in a New 52 solo series beginning in 2011, written by Ron Marz. That series deepened her espionage roots — placing her in a cat-and-mouse conflict with government agency Black Razor and forcing her to navigate a world that wanted to dissect or weaponize her alien half. The New 52 run also expanded her mythology for a new generation of readers, though her WildStorm-era appearances remain the crown jewels for dedicated collectors. Her appearances across WildC.A.T.s volume 1, WildC.A.T.s volume 2, and various WildStorm crossover events all carry collector value.
For collectors, Voodoo represents a rare opportunity: a character whose key issues span two distinct eras and two distinct market booms — the 1990s Image craze and the New 52 speculation wave. WildC.A.T.s #1 in high grade is a legitimate trophy book, and variant editions of that first issue are aggressively sought by CGC hunters. As DC continues to integrate WildStorm characters into the broader DC universe, Voodoo's profile and back-issue demand are only positioned to grow. Hunting her key issues now, before the next wave of mainstream exposure, is exactly the kind of move that defines smart collecting.
