About Cameron Hodge
Cameron Hodge made his sinister debut in X-Factor #1 (1986), one of the most collectible keys of the entire X-Men franchise era. Introduced as the seemingly loyal public relations manager for the original X-Men's new team, Hodge quickly revealed himself to be one of mutantkind's most calculating and dangerous enemies. His obsessive hatred of mutants — born from a deep personal jealousy rooted in his college friendship with Warren Worthington III, the Angel — drove him to build a covert anti-mutant paramilitary organization known as The Right, operating beneath the surface of respectable society while X-Factor unknowingly gave him cover.
Hodge's story exploded into full villain territory during the landmark Inferno crossover event, where his true depth of obsession and cruelty was laid bare. He engineered the tragic death of Madelyne Pryor's son, manipulated multiple factions, and pushed Warren Worthington to the point of losing his iconic wings — a pivotal and heartbreaking moment in X-Men history. His defeat at the hands of Archangel left him decapitated, but Hodge had already made a deal with the demon N'astirh, rendering him effectively immortal. He returned as a grotesque mechanical creature — a severed head grafted onto a massive scorpion-like robotic body — making his later appearances visually iconic and unforgettable.
The X-Tinction Agenda crossover in 1990, spanning Uncanny X-Men, New Mutants, and X-Factor, brought Hodge back in full force as the tyrannical Magistrate Hodge ruling the mutant-slave nation of Genosha. This storyline is considered a cornerstone of early 90s X-Men collecting, and key issues from that crossover remain in consistent demand. Hodge later resurfaced during the horrifying Phalanx Covenant event, having absorbed techno-organic material to become even more powerful and monstrous — cementing his status as a recurring threat capable of reinventing himself across eras.
For collectors, Cameron Hodge represents a rare breed of villain whose key issues span multiple major crossover events. X-Factor #1 alone is a cornerstone key as the first appearance of the reunited original X-Men in their new incarnation, and Hodge's presence throughout Inferno, X-Tinction Agenda, and Phalanx Covenant ties him to some of the most sought-after back issues of the late 80s and early 90s. Whether you're hunting raw copies or chasing high-grade slabs, any collection serious about the X-Men's villain roster needs to account for Cameron Hodge.
