About Adam Strange

Adam Strange is one of DC Comics' most enduring science fiction heroes, an ordinary human archaeologist who was forever changed when the mysterious Zeta-Beam teleported him across the galaxy to the planet Rann. Armed with a jet pack, a trusty ray gun, and an exceptional mind, Strange became the adopted champion of an advanced alien civilization — a regular man who earned his legendary status through courage and intellect rather than superhuman power. His debut in Showcase #17 (1958) marked the beginning of a Silver Age science fiction adventure unlike anything else on the stands, and that key issue remains one of the most sought-after comics from the era.

Following his breakout in Showcase, Adam Strange quickly graduated to a starring role in Mystery in Space, where writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino crafted some of the most imaginative alien-invasion stories of the Silver Age. Issues from this run — particularly Mystery in Space #53 through the mid-80s — are collector favorites, blending gorgeous Infantino artwork with clever puzzle-driven plots. Strange later became a cornerstone of DC's cosmic universe, with landmark stories in Strange Adventures and high-profile appearances across team books including the Justice League of America and the Forgotten Heroes.

The character experienced a powerful modern renaissance through Andy Diggle and Pascal Ferry's Adam Strange: Planet Heist limited series, which redefined the character for a new generation and fed directly into the universe-altering Rann-Thanagar War crossover. His role in 52, DC's weekly series epic, and subsequent involvement in R.E.B.E.L.S. and Justice League United further cemented his status as a cosmic-tier hero whose stories consistently punch above their weight. Each of these storylines produced key issues that collectors continue to hunt.

For collectors, Adam Strange represents the best of DC's Silver Age science fiction — a character with a pristine legacy, iconic visual design, and a publication history packed with desirable keys. From the high-grade challenge of Showcase #17 to the accessible modern runs, building an Adam Strange collection rewards patience and knowledge. His books bridge multiple eras of DC history, making him a cornerstone of any serious DC collection.
